Communications Chairman

Job Description


The job of the Communications Committee is to establish and maintain positive visibility of Indigo in the community, and to promote all of Indigo’s programs, advocacy and fundraising efforts. To accomplish this, its Chair has the following responsibilities:

  • Develop a positive, cohesive and uplifting narrative that clearly demonstrates what we do and what sets us apart from other rescues
  • Cultivate opportunities to introduce that narrative in the community through events and media
  • Maintain Indigo’s websites and social media
  • Compose compelling stories about Indigo recues to be disseminated in media and on the web.
  • Work closely with the Fundraising Chair to “package” and promote fundraising efforts
  • Develop and distribute press releases for strategic events and initiatives
  • Regularly review printed materials and, where needed, update them
  • Ensure that all circulated information about Indigo is unified in its message
  • To function as a Public Relations team (when needed) for other committees
  • In conjunction with staff and the Treasurer, prepare a compelling annual report each year.

Estimated time commitment:

Time required will vary depending on the timing of special events, but we estimate an average time investment (including monthly board meetings) of 10-12 hours monthly.
