Indigo Ranch

In 2007, Indigo Rescue purchased a 16 acre property in Vernonia Oregon.  It was quite a story, but today that property plays a large role in keeping us financially solvent!

Resources are short in the animal rescue world, and the sad fact it that the "square pegs" we exist to serve are almost always the animals that are first to suffer from that shortage. But sadly, the huge majority of our dogs simply cannot be helped in an institutional setting. They require a real home and a foster family to become truly comfortable and to learn all the skills they need to become a permanent member of a forever family.  It simply wouldn't make sense for us to have a large rescue kennel set-up on the property.

What we chose to do instead was to use the property to help the Rescue become self-sustaining by establishing Indigo Ranch Boarding, a separate, for-profit camp-like boarding facility for dogs. The dog parents who board with us want their pups to have a safe, comfortable and fun time in the country when they can't be at their own home.  We have years of experience making scared and lonely dogs feel at home, and this facility just follows that same calling.  100% of the profits go directly to help fund our rescue work. In other words, when your best friend stays with us at Indigo Ranch, you are the kind of friends that our rescue dogs need most.

As an added bonus, having the property and a live-in resident allows us to operate a small farm sanctuary for very little addition cost.  And, oh yes, we also have a respite for fosters and an emergency temporary placement for dogs in crisis, kept separately from our client dogs, of course.
